Family Development and Self-Sufficiency (FaDSS)
Family Development and Self-Sufficiency (FaDSS) program provides services that
promote and nurture families toward self-sufficiency.
FaDSS Services
Home Visits– minimum of one per month
Assessments– evaluation of family strengths
Goal Setting– written and reviewed at each home visit
Support– ongoing, strength based, and solution focused
Advocacy/Referral– accessing community resources
Budgeting– calculated monthly
Families on Family Investment Program (Iowa’s TANF Program) receive:
Employment training
Educational assistance
Intense case management
Crisis intervention
Homeless prevention
Skill building

TBRA The purpose of Tenant Based Rental Assistance is to assist people in securing decent affordable housing. This program provides eligible participants with the full rental deposit and 70% of the first month’s rent for housing units in Black Hawk and Buchanan Counties. All housing units must be inspected and meet or exceed Housing Quality Standards (HQS). Inspections are performed at no cost by a qualified housing inspector. To be eligible for this program, people need to be enrolled in FaDSS or on the Waterloo Housing Authority’s Section 8 waiting list. The program is administered by and applications are available through the FaDSS Program.
FaDSS Day on the Hill - January 16, 2007 FaDSS Day on the Hill is an educational forum held in Des Moines, where participants have the opportunity to meet with legislators.
Partnering with Parenting Families is a collaborative community referral source designed to provide maximum community services to participants.

Quarterly FaDSS Newsletter
FaDSS Holiday Party - The FaDSS holiday party is an opportunity for FaDSS participants to congregate over a meal. Children are given the opportunity to get their photo taken with Santa. This year, each family chose one book per child to take home. Books were provided by Cedar Valley United Way and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
