E-mail Print

Early Head Start is a home visitation program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, to enhance the development of very young children, and to promote healthy family functioning. The program is available for families in Buchanan and Grundy counties.

Early Head Start provides a secure, caring, developmentally enriching environment that enhances physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth. The program also supports the parents in their roles as primary care givers, child educators, and financial providers.

Participants must be pregnant women/families and/or families with children under three years of age. Generally participants must also have household incomes at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (see chart below).

Participants must meet for 90 minutes each week with Home Visitors. Two socialization events for parents and children are also provided each month.
